Postcards to my mother - Wish you Were Here exhibition - Yvonne Rust Gallery
Detail of Calcite Gesso works to show drawing with hand made gesso medium. The idea of using a memory of a place and writing postcards to my mother who is in full time care in Auckland inspired the following small works. Writing a postcard on the reverse of each image in my sloping rather childish hand. Although my mother never visited Rocky Bay where I photographed images below the water on the rocks protecting the bay on the Tutukaka Coast I knew she would have enjoyed it when she was younger. Always an avid swimmer she taught us to love the sea. Each small work is my interpretation of seaweeds, kelp or patterns on rocks.
